Notts County beat Chesterfield after a penalty shoot-out in the 2023 play-off final at Wembley

National League final moved due to Tube strikes

The National League said the change of date for the final was taken "on the advice of Wembley Stadium".

The National League promotion final at Wembley has been moved to Sunday, 5 May because of strike action on the Tube.

The non-league showpiece was originally due to be played at the national stadium the day before.

Members of the Aslef union plan to strike on the London Underground on 8 April and 4 May over continued disputes about pay and working conditions.

The National League said the change of date for the final was taken “on the advice of Wembley Stadium”.

This season’s play-off semi-finals and eliminators will be played from Tuesday, 23 April.

Chesterfield won the National League title and secured the only automatic promotion route to League Two with victory over Boreham Wood on Saturday.

The Spireites were beaten play-off finalists last season, losing to Notts County on penalties after the match ended 2-2 after extra time.

Clubs who finish from fourth to seventh in the table will face off in play-off eliminator matches.

The winners of those will travel away from home to face the second and third-placed teams, currently Barnet and Bromley, in a single-leg semi-final at their grounds.

The National League North and South finals will be played on Saturday, 4 May and Monday, 6 May.

Those matches are played at the home ground of the finalists who finished the season with the higher league position.
