Virtual Madness At The Matchplay.

THE BetFred World Matchplay will potentially be watched by the wackiest virtual reality fans ever seen.

Professional Darts Corporation bosses are encouraging punters to send in their own videos to be seen on the fan wall ‘crowd’ at the behind-closed-doors event from Saturday.

The major event was moved from the iconic Winter Gardens in Blackpool to the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes so it could be staged within a sporting ‘bubble’ under Government rules.

But the PDC are encouraging fans to get involved with the most outrageous fan experience of fancy dress, typical of the usual fun darting crowds.

There will also be fan noise at the arena which will be heard by the players and be reactionary to their scores and celebrations. Normal walk-ons will take place with crowd noise as well.

The PDC are looking for fans to send in their own 180 cheers, match-winning checkout celebrations, best fancy dress outfits, nine-darter celebrations and images showing support.

A spokesman said: “We are expecting to see a lot of different fancy dress and maybe a few mohicans.

“We want the best experience for the players with crowd noise and fan interaction. But equally it’s important for us to get the fans involved, that’s what the sport is all about.”
