FA Thanks Premier League For Financial Contribution To Women's Game Amid Covid-19

Kelly Simmons, our director of the women’s professional game, has thanked the Premier League for pledging more than £1million to help with the restart of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship.

The 2019-20 campaign in both leagues was terminated at the end of May following the outbreak of COVID-19, with the weekend of 5 and 6 September set as the provisional date for the start of the new season.

"We would like to thank the Premier League for its support in providing crucial funding that will allow us to align with their testing protocols when we come back for the 2020-21 season."

“It is well documented that the football industry is going through a difficult period with the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Simmons, “and The FA has been transparent with our own challenges.

“We would like to thank the Premier League for its support in providing crucial funding that will allow us to align with their testing protocols when we come back for the 2020-21 season.

“Player safety is our number-one priority. Every time a player steps onto the field, we want them to feel that they are in a safe environment, and we will continue to work with government, clubs and football stakeholders to ensure that happens.”
